The Hulk

So, guess what movie I went to see last night? :)

The Avengers, while also containing plenty of other great VFX work from among others ILM, has work by one of my favorite artists, Kris Costa. His work on the Hulk and the huge worm thing was seriously amazing. We got to see a 4k projection in stereo, which is absolutely the way to go if you have the possibility. Loved the movie, go see it. Or we're no longer friends.

I also went straight home and started to play around in zbrush with making my own Hulk model. This is where I left off, but I'll certainly keep on working on this later.

Speed sculpt 05.03.2012

Quick sculpt I did this morning to warm up for a days work, took about an hour or so. Trying to crank one of these out in about that timeframe each morning, hoping for the old "practice makes perfect" thing to kick in. Any day now...

Quick sculpt

Just dicked around with the head from the last post for 20 min before hitting the sack for tonight.

Quick sculpt

Here's just a little thing I've been doodling on before work a couple of days this week. I'm up to my elbows in work these days, which results in little time for the types of things I would like to spend my time on, sleep and relaxation not excluded. I am however trying to get up an hour earlier on weekdays so I get to at least dick around in zbrush a little before going to work. Already feeling the advantages of more frequent practice, if only for a little while every day. So check this fat guy out, you freaks.

Shit, has it been a year already?

Wow, it just hit me how much time has gone by since I last posted. A full year. Needless to say my previous project has gone the way of the dodo, but another one has been in progress on and off for a while now. So, what have I been doing this past year? I've produced exceptionally little, but learned a whole lot. I've been attending some great anatomy classes, as well as studying vfx production techniques and drawing ecorches like a crazy person during a lot of my free time, much to my poor girlfriends annoyance.

I'll try to get some pics up on this here blog from my current project. It's a little more reined in compared to the last one, but still way ambitious. Maybe too much so, but what's new right?

To start things off, here's an ecorche I did, as well as a totally unrelated super quick wip sculpt I did tonight. Way rusty still, prime example of knowledge not meaning shit unless you're able to put it into practice. So I guess it's time to get cracking?

Reelshot - Update #06

Evenin'.

Just figured I'd post a quick update before I hit the sack for the night. Today, I've been a little all over the place. I've textured some more of the missile, laid out UV's for the RPG, roto'ed and placed camera projections of 3 riot police characters into the virtual set, and played around with the basic skin tone concepts for the main character for about 15 seconds and revised the gear selection a bit.

In other news, I might be doing some freelance work over the next few weeks before I leave for Bali, which may force me to push the production schedule some. Hey, paid work trumps all, ok?

Reelshot - Update #05

Just a quick wip screengrab for the texture on the missile from the RPG. The text on the side is not really set in stone yet, might figure out something more clever..er. Some more character stuff to come in the next days.
